A SCHOOL in Chilton Foliat has bought a 24ft teepee, which can house up to 30 children, to enhance their students' learning.

The Friends of Chilton Foliat Primary School purchased the teepee at the beginning of the month to improve children's concentration, social skills, involvement and initiative.

Headteacher Denise Weston said: "There are many benefits to primary school children being taught outside and we believe that every child should experience the world beyond the classroom as part of their day-to-day learning.

"The children have been really excited and cannot wait to use it. They were absolutely thrilled when they first saw it and are very proud that it has the official school logo on the door. It is really big and can fit a full class size of 30 in it, which is great for our expanding school. The parents are really pleased with it and see it as a great extension of our learning space and a wonderful addition to the outside environment."

The children will use the teepee for lessons and story telling and some after school clubs are also planning to use it for events and sleepovers.

Mrs Weston added: "Our Friends group are fantastically active in fundraising for our small school and we couldn’t have purchased it without them."

Chilton Foliat Primary School is also hosting a Rio Carnival inspired summer fair from 1pm on Saturday, with samba, limbo dancing, carnival parades and stalls and headdress making in the teepee. Entry is £1 per person.
