THE Friends and Family of St John’s in Marlborough are preparing to hold their very first bake off at St Peter’s School.

Over the next few weeks participants are going to be whisking, baking and frosting their entries to the bake off which is taking place on June 25 at St Peter’s School in The Parade.

Ben Tarring, 51, of St Martin’s and chairman of the Friends and Family of St John’s, said: “It is in a few weeks, anyone who wishes to enter is asked to bake something and bring it in so it can be judged as part of the competition. The cakes will then be tested and sold off after to anyone who wants to drop by and try them out.”

Mr Tarring, who is organising the event, is looking forward to the day with hopes that a large number of people will sign up.

“I have been the chairman of the Friends for five years, we always do event like movie night and similar things but this time we wanted to do something different and hope to tap in to the bake-off craze that seems to be sweeping the country. This will be a fun event for both adults and children, at the moment we could have two and a half cakes or be absolutely inundated with them,” he said.

Anyone wishing to enter the bake off can apply for the rules and an entry form by emailing stjohnscakeoff@gmail.com. Entry costs £5 per adult and £2 for under 16’s per category.
