AFTER receiving outlined planning permission in February, The Crown Estate is ready to sell the land off Salisbury Road for housing development.

Originally outlining the development of 220 houses on the 33 acre site, the planning application was revised to 175 homes after a consultation with Wiltshire Council which recognised the affect the sizeable development would have on the surrounding countryside.

Half a mile from the centre of Marlborough, the site will hold 175 homes as well as a 60-bedroom hotel. One of the conditions to the approval of the planning application was that 40 per cent of the housing will be affordable.

Robert Wheldon, director at Savills, said: "Housing is in great demand, so the ability to release this kind of land presents a significant and rare development opportunity."

During the revision of the plans 70 written letters of representation were submitted, with a large number showing concerns that the development could cause an increase of traffic, adding to the congestion of the town.

Invitations are being extended to people who may be interested in making an offer for the freehold of the site with all offers needing to be in by July 8. For further information on the freehold of the site contact Elgan Jones at Savills in Bristol on 01179 100 323.
