Marlborough and District Rotary Club ran their annual Know Your Blood Pressure day at the Jubilee Centre in Marlborough High Street on Saturday (23rd April).

Leaflets were distributed and signs put up to advertise the event, and Rotarians were in the High Street encouraging people to participate.

First the Rotarians tested each other to make sure they were fit and ready for the day. A steady stream of people came in and had their blood pressure taken and completed the short Stroke Association questionnaire. A few discussed their results with Drs Nick Maurice and Trevor Tiplady, who generously spent the day helping out.

Rotarian Geoff Oades said: "It was a very successful and worthwhile day."

The day is organised by the Stroke Association and is carried out by Rotary Clubs all over the country.

The objective is to increase the publics’ awareness of the connection between high blood pressure and strokes. High blood pressure contributes to over 50 per cent of all strokes; by increasing awareness and controlling high blood pressure these strokes could be prevented.

This campaign helps people to understand the link and the data collected is passed anonymously to the Stroke Association for further research and statistical analysis.
