ANOTHER NAME has been announced for the annual Marlborough LitFest line-up, taking place later this year.

Back by popular demand, the LitFest in partnership with The Reading Agency and World Book Night (April 23) has unveiled their Big Town Read author for this year’s line-up in the form of Elizabeth Bechan, author of The Good Wife, Consider the Lily and many more.

Genevieve Clarke, programme manager at The Reading Agency, said: “Elizabeth Buchan is a great supporter of our work and of spreading the word about the power of reading to change lives. We’re delighted that I Can’t Begin to Tell You will be this year’s Big Town Read at Marlborough LitFest as well being one of our titles for World Book Night.”

Following in the footsteps of previous Big Town Read authors Sathnam Sanghera, Jackie Kay and Rachel Joyce, this year local book groups were asked for their input into choosing the 2016 author. Elizabeth Buchan was chosen from a shortlist as her latest novel I Can’t Begin to Tell You also appears on this year’s World Book Night list.

As well as her novels, Mrs Buchan’s short stories have been broadcast on Radio 4 and she regularly reviews for the Sunday Times and Daily Mail.

The first list of authors on this year’s line-up was released at the start of the month, including such names as Michael Morpurgo, author and historian Tom Holland and bestselling international crime writer, Peter James, just to name a few.

The programme for the festival is still being put together, but in its seventh year Marlborough LitFest will have a mix of fiction, non-fiction, new and young emerging authors, poetry and children’s events as well as a programme to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

World Book Night, now in its sixth year, is an annual celebration of reading and books run by The Reading Agency- the charity aiming to inspire more people to read, encourage them to share their enjoyment of reading and celebrate the difference reading makes to peoples’ lives.

Every year on April 23, volunteers give away hundreds of thousands of books from a selected list of titles in their communities to share their love of reading and encourage those people who don’t read for pleasure.

Marlborough LitFest takes place on the weekend of September 30- October 2. Elizabeth Buchan will be appearing at the LitFest on Sunday October 2 at 4.15pm in Marlborough Town Hall.
