FORENSIC officers are at Tesco in Marlborough and a police tape has been put outside after a break-in at 3am this morning.

Thousands of pounds worth of cigarettes and tobacco were stolen after three men dressed in black with masks on their faces broke into the supermarket.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw a blue Volvo estate driving in the area at the time.

Glass of a window can be seen smashed on the floor near the entrance. A bin has also been tipped over and compost has been spilled on the floor.

However, the shop in Salisbury Road is open as normal for customers.

A police spokesman said: “We were called just before 3am to the store.

“Unknown offenders (believed to be three) broke in to the store and stole a large amount of cigarettes and tobacco (worth £1,000s).  All three were dressed in black, with faces and hands covered.

“A blue Volvo estate was spotted on CCTV outside the store while the burglary was taking place.

“We are appealing for witnesses and anyone who saw a blue Volvo estate driving in the area in the early hours of today.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101.

A similar incident happened last year when the same panel of glass was smashed and the security shutters to the cigarette counter inside were prised open and a large quanity of cigarettes were stolen.

Two hours earlier on Friday, June 19, the cashpoint outside Fraser Budgens store and petrol station was smashed with a crowbar and set alight at around 3am.
