HANKERING after the sea is one of the downsides of upping sticks and moving to the Big Smoke to make music.

Seafret are a duo from Bridlington, Jack Sedman on vocals and Harry Draper on guitar, and they are heading for Marlborough to meet and greet fans and promote their debut album, Tell Me Its Real, on Sunday, January 31.

The duo named themselves Seafret, after the mist that rolls in across the sea near their home town, and the fret board on a guitar.

Leaving the ocean behind was one of the toughest moves for the musicians, whose music is inspired by the rolling waves of the North sea.

But the move paid off as the duo have been in demand for summer festivals playing both Glastonbury and Latitude, and they snapped up support slots with James Bay and Hozier.

Seafret met at an open mic in Yorkshire and their EP, Give Me Something, won them notice from Zane Lowe and Huw Stephens on BBC Radio One. Both Harry and Jack come from musical backgrounds following in their dads’ footsteps, one influenced by country and bluegrass and the other punk rock.

This unusual combination brought them notice with their second EP called Oceans, and Jack and Harry are hoping that their latest single, Wildfire, will be equally well received.

Maisie Williams from Game of Thrones appeared in the music video for Oceans.

Tell Me It’s Real is out tomorrow, Friday, January 29 and the musicians will be performing at Sound Knowledge in Marlborough from 5pm on Sunday. For more details call 01672 511106 — Flicky Harrison
