BURBAGE youngster Amelie Stevens is thrilled to have raised £350 for Prospect Hospice by baking and selling scrumptious cakes in the village.

From Victoria sponge, lemon and carrot cake, flapjacks and cupcakes, residents rallied around and whipped out their aprons and cookery books to make cakes to donate to the 11-year-old in her bid to raise money for charity.

The bake sale took place on Saturday and locals filled into All Saints Church in Eastcourt to pick up a sweet treat and hot drink.

Her mum Jan Zriel, who was helping out on the day, said: “The day went well with a steady flow of visitors. We also sold lots of cakes the following day after the family church service which was great.

“We would like to thank China Rose florist and Marshalls bakery in Pewsey who kindly donated plants and cakes for the event.”

Amelie, a student of St John's in Marlborough, was inspired to do something for the charity as her mum works as a staff nurse at Prospect’s inpatient unit in Wroughton. She was thinking about people who are ill over Christmas and wanted to find a way to help.

Her grandmother Maureen Stevens said: " It was a great effort for a young girl, which resulted in an excellent amount of money being raised for an important local cause, we are all very proud of Amelie."

Vichy Camp a neighbour and friend who lent a hand on the day added: " The generosity of the local community helped make the day a huge success."
