POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a crash last night in which a man from the Swindon area suffered life-threatening injuries.

At around 11.45pm a silver Toyota Corolla was involved in a collision with a blue Audi A4 and a black Vauxhall Astra on the A346 between Marlborough and Swindon, near the Ogbourne Downs Golf Club.

Four people were hurt with the driver of the Corolla, a man from Swindon area, suffering serious internal, head and leg injuries, which are described as life threatening.

He was taken to Southmead Hospital and the driver of the Audi, who suffered serious leg injuries, was also taken to Southmead.

Firefighters from Marlborough and Ramsbury freed four of those involved in the crash.

Two people were cut free from one car by 12.55am today and the other two were cut from the other car by 1.10am.

The passenger and driver of the Astra, who were both women from Bristol, suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon by ambulance.

The A346 was completely closed to traffic in both direction for more than four hours to allow collision investigators to examine the scene.
