PENSIONERS living around Marlborough in need of a hot cooked meal at lunchtime are being reminded to take advantage of the town’s Meals on Wheels scheme.

It is run by Carole Walker, who is the manager of the Jubilee Centre, and along with volunteer Patrick Bere, prepares the meals fresh every morning for delivery and for those dining at the centre in the High Street.

It costs £5 a day and varies from chicken pie, beef casseroles and butternut squash plus puddings and on Wednesday and Thursdays also includes soup.

The scheme was initially set up in January 2014 and volunteer drivers deliver the hot meals Monday to Friday from midday within a three mile radius of the town.

“At the moment we have three people but we can cope with up to 12 and if needed we can look for more volunteer drivers,” Mrs Walker said.

“If people ring before 9am then can have a delicious hot meal delivered to them that day.”
