A CLASSICAL music concert in Marlborough has raised more than £1,300 for charity.

The Mayor of Marlborough Margaret Rose joined a large audience at St John's Theatre on the Hill for the Voice on the Hill concert, sponsored by Henry George Estate Agents, on Saturday, September 26, raising funds for Hope and Homes for Children and Help for Heroes.

Among the performers were the Great Bedwyn Choir, former St John’s student turned professional singer Anastasia Quinton-Smith, award-winning mezzo-contralto Fiona Scott MacArthur and Wiltshire born baritone Nicholas Evans.

A combined choir of 50 children from Oare and Kennet Valley Primary Schools, with their music teacher Gudrun Osborn, opened the programme and impressed everyone with the quality of their voices.

The audience were also entertained during the interval by father and daughter saxophonists Sarah and Mick Allport.

The highlight of the evening came when all the performers were joined on stage with the Great Bedwyn Choir along with the 50 children to sing a medley of songs from Les Miserables.

In total the evening raised £1,360 which will be shared equally between the two charities.

One of the organisers Alison Netherclift added: “The Voices on The Hill concert was a great success.”
