STUDENTS at St John’s in Marlborough has been enlisted as one of the schools to help decide the winner of the BBC National Short Story Award.

A shortlist of five stories was announced live on Radio 4 last week and the students will meet to discuss the shortlisted entries on Friday.

The Short Story Awards are organised by the Book Trust, which has issued a range of resources to help the students to think about what makes a good short story, as well as providing them with anthologies of the shortlisted stories.

Under the supervision of librarian Anne Stokes, the youngsters will decide which titles they want to vote for and submit their votes to the Book Trust.

Each student in the group has their own vote and the votes will be used to decide the winner of the Student Choice award.

The winners will be announced live on BBC Radio 4 later that day from 7.15pm to 7.45pm.
