STUDENTS, parents and teachers at St John’s Academy in Marlborough had a nail biting wait as GCSE results were revealed today.

The students flocked to the school for 9am and waited in line to collect their results sealed in brown envelopes. While some parents braved the nerve-wracking walk to the school’s atrium with their teenagers, others had a tense wait in the car.

However, once again the secondary school is celebrating achieving fantastic results. An amazing 10 per cent achieved at least ten A* and A grades and about 64 per cent achieved at least five A*-C grades including English and maths.

There were lots of smiles, tears of joy and hugging as the students saw their grades revealed. A large number are staying on to study their A-Levels at the school’s Sixth Form, while others are heading to various colleges in the county.

One of the students to be beaming from ear to ear was Ellie Davis, 16, who achieved eight A*s and four As. Her proud mum Karen, who works in the school’s finance department, also joined her to collect her results and Ellie is continuing her studies at the school to study A-Levels in science, maths, French and geography.

She said: “I’m amazed, I’m so pleased. All the hard work has paid off. She’s [her mum] really chuffed.”

Phoebe Leader, 16, was delighted and relieved to see she did better than she expected and achieved an A* in textiles and two As in art and music, which she is passionate about, amongst her other results. She is going to be doing A-Levels at the school in art, music, textiles and biology.

Another student who got higher grades than she thought she would was Charlie Hole, 16, from Marlborough. She pulled out her piece of paper to see seven A*s and four As. “I worked hard but I didn’t think I would do this well, I just thought I would do ok. I’m so happy,” she said.

The other teenagers who also did exceptionally well are Ruthie Bentley who got eight A*s and four As, Luke Davies who achieved nine A*s and three As, Robyn Davies who got nine A*s and three As and Stella Filipiak who received ten A*s and two As.

Angus Hitchmough also got nine A*s and three As, Celia Mellor got ten A*s and two As, Katie Milsom achieved nine A*s and one A and Maya Stock got nine A*s and three As.

As well as Sarah Hendry who got seven A*s, three As and two Bs and Joe Lindley who achieved six A*s and five As.

Assistant vice principle Dan Rogan said: “As ever, we are delighted by the achievements of all students.

"We pride ourselves on matching the curriculum to each student’s needs and we enjoy great success in seeing almost all of our students achieve what they need to secure places in our Sixth Form, at college or on apprenticeships.

“Success is hard earned and we thank the students for their determination, their parents for the support they give and our staff for their inspiration and professionalism.”
