AVEBURY Rocks, the annual fundraising concert for Prospect Hospice, is moving from its usual home at Avebury stones to Marlborough this year.

A lively and eclectic mix of musical acts will be brought to Millmead field in Marlborough College where the event is going to be staged on August 22.

The new venue is just for this year, as a convenient date couldn’t be organised in Avebury. The organising team also thought it would be nice to use Marlborough as a location, seeing as the new Prospect Hospice outpatient centre will be opening at Savernake Hospital.

The day, which also includes an optional 20km sponsored morning walk across the region’s Neolithic landscape in Avebury, is the brainchild of locally-based folk-rocker Nick Harper, who staged the first event back in 2011.

This year’s performers include Grammy award-winning guitar legend Preston Reed, local rising star George Wilding, The Loose Salute, guaranteed feel good music from CC Smugglers, Port Erin and, fresh from their acclaimed appearance at this year’s Glastonbury festival, Coco and the Butterfields.

Nick Harper will also be performing with a full band, and leading the acoustic music break in Avebury as part of the sponsored walk.

Prospect Hospice events fundraiser Genevieve Arney said: “Everyone has worked really hard again this year to ensure an exciting line up.

“We are looking forward to taking Avebury Rocks ‘on tour’ this year and staging it in Marlborough, although Avebury will still be an important part of the morning walk with the music stop held there.

“Staging it in the town is extra special for us after the success of our recent Savernake Appeal, and all of the support the Marlborough community has continued to show us.”

Avebury Rocks is on Saturday 22 August, and tickets are available at £18 for adults, £10 for under 16’s, and £45 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 under 16s). For people who will also join the walk, there is a suggested sponsorship target of £50.
