THE Savernake Sizzler Cycling Challenge takes place on Sunday, July 26, starting at Milton Lilbourne and the routes, ranging from 32 to 110 miles, will take cyclists around Savernake Forest.
It is being organised by GiveItSome, a new project being developed by local father and daughter team, Paul Greenman, 52, and Penny Pauw, 29, and the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement (CALM).
The routes promise a mix of challenging hills, winding lanes and straight, fast sections . There will also be feed stations and mechanical support.
Entries are from as little as £10 each, with all the facilities you’d expect from a larger cycling sportive, combined with the friendly atmosphere of a smaller local event.
Organiser and local cycling and running enthusiast Mr Greenman said: “It isn’t just a challenge physically, it’s an exploration, a social event and a great way to raise money for charity.”
GiveItSome is encouraging cyclists to raise funds for their sponsored charity CALM, a volunteer-run local charity, which helps families of children receiving cancer and leukaemia treatment at Swindon’s Great Western Hospital.
GiveItSome is offering to cover the cost of entry for any rider who raises £100 or more and there’s a prize draw for fundraisers too.
Proceeds from the home-baked goodies stand and tea and coffee donations will be going to CALM providing a perfect end to a hard cycle.
