AVEBURY Henge tour guide John Drews has decided to put pen to paper to write a novel about his secret theory on Silbury Hill.

The 62-year-old from Swindon has carried out 14 years of research to create his book The Silbury Revelation, where he sheds light on why the largest prehistoric man-made mound in Europe was built by the Stone Age population around 2400BC in Wiltshire.

He reveals his theory that it has a hidden message behind it and is symbolic of an overthrown Stone Age religion.

Mr Drews said: “I first became interested in Neolithic monuments when I was writing my Lake District guidebooks in the 90s, Cumbria's stone circles are often in spectacular locations.

“I started to research the great Neolithic complexes in Wiltshire, and read about the mystery of Silbury Hill, which fascinated me. In 2001 I moved to Swindon from Lancashire, in order to study the monuments more closely. Eventually I became a tour guide at Avebury Henge, but it was always the enigma of Silbury that really motivated my research.

“In 2010 I made a chance discovery in the landscape. One of those eureka moments that showed me the monument in its true light. Subsequently, research at other Neolithic sites throughout the country indicated that my theory for Silbury Hill was correct, and so I wrote the book.”

The Silbury Revelation is available at thesilburyrevelation.com for £6.95.
