AN afternoon strolling along the banks of the River Kennet proved popular with many at the weekend.

More than 120 people took the opportunity to join Action for the River Kennet's (ARK) Summer River Walk along usually private stretches of the river from Marlborough to Axford.

Tea and homemade cakes were served at Werg Mill in Mildenhall, providing an ideal riverbank break to admire the chalk stream and find out more about the habitat restoration work that will be happening later this year along that reach.

The Summer River Walk was in partnership with Thames Water.

"It was a wonderful afternoon, seeing so many of our supporters out and enjoying the river," said ARK project officer Anna Forbes.

"Several members of the public were thrilled to spot water voles, we are so lucky in this area to have them."
