PUPILS at St John’s in Marlborough got a taste of life as a professional dancer when James Wilton Dance put on a workshop at the school.

The workshop was organised to run in conjunction performance of Last Man standing by the six-person strong dance troop at the Theatre on the Hill which audiences flocked to.

During the visit, James Wilton Dance put 22 pupils from years 9 and 10 through their paces with team building warm ups and a contemporary dance class.

The day ended with the aspiring dancers learning some of the routines from Last Man Standing which involve a full arsenal of throws, lifts and slides.

All of the students involved are either studying GCSE dance this year or will be taking it next year.

Amy Hunter, 14, who will be taking GCSE dance next year, said: “I really enjoyed the workshop. It was really exciting to have the professional dancers in.”

James Wilton is one of the UK’s most in-demand choreographers and his performances are influenced by martial arts, break dance and capoeira.

The visit was organised in conjunction with Swindon Dance through Marlborough-based charity Operaluna which aims to bring high quality opera and dance to new audiences at low ticket prices in Wiltshire.
