DRIVERS have been facing traffic chaos in and around Wiltshire this morning.

In Seend on the A361 a motorcyclist and car collided at the crossroads by The Bell Inn just before 8am. Police closed off the road for more than hour directing drivers to the A350 so they could clear the road.

An ambulance was called and the motorcyclist, thought to be in his 20s, suffered from a broken leg.

He was travelling from Devizes to Trowbridge and was in collision with the Mitsubishi that was turning to Worton. Any witnesses should call police on 101.

There have also long delays coming into Trowbridge this morning on the A361 Hilperton Road due to traffic lights that have been put up by Wessex Water while they carry out work.

Commuters heading east on the M4 also faced delays between junctions 15, for Swindon East, and junction 14 for Hungerford, after a lorry overturned at 3am.

More than 300 litres of diesel spilled across the carriageway and a safety barrier was damaged, the Highways Agency said.

While emergency services dealt with the spillage, the eastbound carriageway was closed off but was re-opened just before 10.30am.

The Highways Agency  tweeted: "All closures have been removed following the carriageway treatment and delays should start to clear #M4 J15-J14 thanks for your patience."

Traffic was being diverted via the A419 north towards Swindon, the B4192 south via Liddington to Hungerford, and A338 north back to the M4, junction 14.

This caused delays across Swindon and beyond including on the A3102 Great Western Way, Swindon, on the A4 Bath Road at Froxfield, South Street, Aldbourne, and elsewhere including on the A346 into Marlborough.

However motorists heading to Chippenham on the A420 are still facing tailbacks as an overturned lorry is blocking the roads between the A4175 Bath Road junction, in Bridgeyate, and the Cold Ashton roundabout, in Cold Ashton.

Diversions in place are leading drivers onto the A46 heading into Bath which is becoming heavily congested.
