A CHOIR of 138 singers helped to raise £4,500 towards a new heating system in St Michael’s Church in Aldbourne, which gets too cold for parishioners during the winter.

The event was organised by The Friends of St Michael. On November 1 a choir, led by conductor Sir Peter Beale, performed Handel’s Messiah to boost fundraising efforts.

Committee and choir member Mike Hellier said: “The evening was a huge success. The church was packed to capacity, with nearly 300 people. The performance was a triumph.

"We were delighted with the success of this event and it shows what can be done in a rural community.”
