The A4 from the Beckhampton roundabout to Marlborough will be closed for three nights while work is carried out near the college.

Each closure is from 7pm-6am, starting tonight, to allow for surface work on a stretch of road from Marlborough College towards Devizes for about 600 metres to improve skid resistance.

The closure is required to allow lorries to turn at the start and end of the diversion.

When there were road works outside The Bell in West Overton in 2012 the pub closed for the week but this time it will be open as usual.

Assistant manager Mark Doggart said: “We haven’t been told anything by Wiltshire Council.

“It’s going to put people off who are coming from Marlborough and we get a lot of trade from that direction and I believe there a sign at the Beckhampton roundabout so I imagine it will put people off who see that too.”
