Action for the River Kennet (ARK) has smashed its target of encouraging people in Marlborough to save two million litres of water.

During its Save Water September campaign the charity, in partnership with Thames Water and Climate Energy, has been encouraging residents to have free water-saving devices installed in their homes.

Climate Energy representative and Marlborough resident Nick Dickenson went door to door in the town offering the free devices.

He said: “I was really impressed at how well-informed Marlborough residents are about ARK, the Kennet and about water saving.”

Mr Dickenson carried out more than 120 water-saving installations – all provided free by Thames Water.

The devices range from aerating shower heads to hose trigger guns and are estimated to save three million litres of water.

Ingo Brenk, of London Road, was one of those who took advantage of the campaign.

He said: “We have had some water-saving devices in the past but it was great to have Nick check that we had fitted them correctly and give us the latest devices that would suit our property.

“Our garden backs onto the Kennet, and it has become very important to our young children and us. It’s great to think we are protecting the Kennet and saving money.”
