Corsham High Street could soon see a reduction in signage after the town council agreed to work with protesters to clear street clutter.

More than 200 people signed a petition last week calling on the council to do something about the increase in road signs on the historic street, which was presented to its amenities committee on Wednesday, July 16.

Priory Street resident Christine Reid started the petition two weeks ago.

She said: “We had about 30 people at the meeting and we presented our case, which was that the conservation area of the High Street had been neglected, effectively since Wiltshire Council took over responsibility, and there was incremental clutter across the High Street.”

Town clerk David Martin said: “There are some immediate things we are doing, like asking Wiltshire Council if they can change some of the signs. Then we will do an audit of the High Street area, to see what things we would like to do.”
