Marlborough be the centre of attention on Saturday as a result of a visit by wine expert Susie Barrie from BBC1’s popular Saturday Kitchen programme.
A team from the cookery show choose wine from Tesco and Waitrose to complement dishes which will be conjured up on the live show by chefs Clare Smyth and Paul Ainsworth.
Producer Andy Clarke said: “I’m from Bristol so I drive through Marlborough quite a lot on my way to London and as a producer you never really switch off and for a while I’ve thought it would make a great town for the wine section, with its wide High Street and great views.”
The crew went to the top of St Peter’s Church on Wednesday to get high angle shots for the opening sequence and also paid a visit to Marlborough Collage.
Mr Clarke said: “We get about 2 million viewers every week so we usually chose national chains to get the wine from so that viewers can get their hands on it wherever they are from and then point out any special features of the town, like Marlborough Collage.
“The day was lovely, everybody was really friendly, I don’t think I met one unpleasant person all day.”
Saturday Kitchen is on BBC1 at 10am and 11.30pm.
