Pedestrian killed in Malmesbury after being struck by motorbike

A man was killed and another seriously injured this morning, after a motorbike collided with a pedestrian in Malmesbury.

The accident occurred on the A429 bypass, near the Blicks Hill turn-off, at around 8.25am.

Police and ambulances were called but the male pedestrian, who was in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcyclist, also a man in his 50s, was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital, near Bristol, with serious head injuries. His condition has since been described as serious but stable. Family of both men have been informed.

Police closed the road between the roundabouts at either end of the bypass this morning while investigations were carried out. It was reopened at 2.30pm.

A spokesperson for Great Western Ambulance Service said: "Sadly the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The motorcyclist suffered serious head injuries and has been airlifted to hospital."

Anyone who witnessed the collision should call Wiltshire Police on 101.
