Malmesbury mums enjoy sweet success
2:20pm Thursday 12th July 2012 in Malmesbury By Staff reporter
The Chocolate Ladies, set up under a year ago by two mums from Lea, near Malmesbury, have just won two prestigious Taste of the West Food and Drink Product Awards for 2012.
Their Chocolate Pecan Brownies won a Gold award, with the judges comments including: "Characteristic brownie texture with plenty of nuts. Delicious to eat and... 'no good for the waistline'.
They also submitted their popular Double Chocolate Fudge, which won a Silver Award. The judges loved its 'smooth texture' saying its 'a delicious fudge to eat'.
Hester Witt and Karen Upton started up The Chocolate Ladies after deciding that perhaps there would be a wider appreciation for their cooking than just their friends.
"The last 11 months have been incredibly exciting, we have learnt an enormous amount, had wonderful feedback from our customers and begun to see the possibilites for the future," said Mrs Upton. "But to gain the recognition from food and drinks experts really helps to strengthen our belief in our business."
Mrs Witt added: "We are on the brink of launching our website so that customers can order direct, but in the meantime we are getting huge amounts of orders via word of mouth. We love what we do, but these awards just makes it even more satisfying."
