Pensioner rides streets of Malmesbury in the buff

Police have cautioned a pensioner seen riding naked on a scooter in the afternoon for a bet.

Officers received an anonymous report that the man had been spotted riding down Oxford Street in Malmesbury at around 3pm on Sunday June 6.

Last week, a 67-year-old male from the local area was identifed. He was cautioned by police for causing a public nuisance by indecently exposing himself.

Police said the naked man had been bet £100 at a charity event to ride naked through the streets. The officer wouldn’t say where the event was. The £100 ended up in the charity pot.

Ian Pollard, the owner of Malmesbury’s Abbey House Gardens, who with his wife has earned the nickname The Naked Gardeners for their love of gardening in the nude, laughed off suggestions that it was him. He said: “I don’t know anyone who owns a scooter let alone own one myself.”
