Classes for parents of newborn babies are being relaunched by a charity in Malmesbury after they were cut under the NHS.

The National Childbirth Trust is re-establishing the free Just Born course, offering advice to new parents on everything from breast-feeding and coping with sleep deprivation, to baby massage and post-natal exercise.

Gynnette Ranger-Walsh, Malmesbury NCT co-ordinator, said: “The group used to be run by health visitors at the Malmesbury practice, but as with so many other counties, the health visitors were told in October last year that they couldn’t run this anymore due to reallocation of funding.

“As someone who attended the group in 2010, I understand the value of it and when I heard they were no longer running, I presented the case to others at Malmesbury NCT to see if we could help. We applied for a grant (from the Co-operative Members Community Fund) and received £2,000.”

Sessions start on June 20. To book, call 07736 357327 or email coordinator @malmesburynct.org.uk They will run on Wednesdays from 12.15pm at Malmesbury Primary Care Centre (doctor’s surgery) for babies born after April 1, 2012.
