PLUCKY parents and staff from Crudwell CE Primary School didn't let the heavy snowfall get in the way of their plans to run a half-marathon.

With the Bath Half cancelled because of the bad weather, the Crudwell Crackers took it upon themselves to create their own route around Crudwell, through the slush and past the snowdrifts.

Six parents and staff took on the challenge to raise money for Friends of Crudwell School, to improve the outdoor facilities for the pupils, and one ran for Cancer Research UK.

They were cheered on by family and friends who moved along the makeshift course, offering words of encouragement and handing out sweets.

Friends of Crudwell School member Vicky Baker, 41, said: "We were in limbo because of the weather. We had done so much training and preparation for it so some of the boys decided we were all going to run around Crudwell.

"Because we had raised a bit of money already, we knew we had to do something.

"They set out finding a half-marathon route around Crudwell. This was not the easiest thing to achieve as most of the roads still had five foot snowdrifts on them.

"It actually worked really well and it was a lovely atmosphere.

"It is my first half-marathon it was really hard work, but I am so delighted and proud that I finished it."

The Crudwell crackers have raised over £600 of their £1,000 target. Donations can still be made at: www.mydonate.bt.com/events/crudwellcrackers2018.
