GRIEVING parents Dawn and Andy Cubin say the news that their 14-year-old daughter Hannah died of a previously undetected heart condition has brought them 'comfort and peace', and have vowed to go on fundraising for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance in her memory.

This week the couple, who live in Crudwell, were told by the Wiltshire coroner that the final results of a post mortem have shown Hannah, who collapsed and died while at a sleepover in December, died from natural causes, specifically Cardiac Fibrosis.

Although her parents, who tried to save their daughter using CPR before paramedics spent an hour in vain trying to revive her, say they are still profoundly affected by her death, they feel the news has brought them 'a little bit of peace'.

Medical tests to try and establish the cause of Hannah's death began 48 hours after the death of the Malmesbury School pupil. In the last six months an appeal in her name has raised over £64,000 in support of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance

"We both miss her during every day of our waking minutes. To lose our wonderful daughter at 14 hurts so much, but we have gained a little peace, following the disclosure of this recent information," said Mrs Cubin.

"In simple terms, Hannah died of heart failure from a condition that neither we, nor she, could have been aware of. Despite the best efforts of everybody concerned, Hannah could not have been saved.

"What was also a weight off our shoulders was to find that the toxicology report was clear. We have been going through the 14-page report, trying to understand it and now we know nothing could have been done.

"We have since asked them is there any piece of equipment that could have picked up this, or anything available to the paramedics that could have saved her.

"The only way, we believe, to eradicate the condition is to get a heart transplant. I think it is important to try and find a way of detecting this sort of thing early in children's lives. But for now, this has helped a little."

Mrs Cubin said that friends, family and even strangers were still organising fundraisers, which has touched the family deeply.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank our family, friends and all of you who have offered us your comfort and support from near and far," she added

"We are especially proud of the magnificent fundraising that is our daughter’s legacy in support of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. We find out people have done fundraisers without us knowing about it, which is incredibly kind.

"I plan on doing a wing walk, which should be mad."
