CHILDREN are being encouraged to explore and understand their anger through a new book written by a trainee teacher, who grew up in Malmesbury.

Luke Baker, who grew up in Margery Holroyd Rise with his family, published his first book Rory Red: For Children with Angry Feelings after he took a training course on coping mechanisms and emotions.

"I went on a course to become an emotional literacy support assistant where I learnt about the different ways children can cope with their feelings," the 25-year-old said. "We learn different coping mechanisms and the way in which colours can be related to different emotions really struck a chord with me so I went home and reflected on it and began to brainstorm.

"Focusing on the colour red to talk about anger, I created Rory Red and it was published in February. I am really happy with it and I didn't anticipate many people buying it but I just wanted to get it out there in case one person I didn't know bought it because they thought it might be useful. So far it has exceeded that."

Mr Baker, who is currently training to become a primary school teacher in Maidenhead, said the book took a long time to create but was worth all the hard work.

"My family are really proud of me," he added. "They keep offering me loads of advice on what to do next and they are just really supportive."
