A TWO time breast cancer survivor from Malmesbury will be taking on a 24 hour relay walk surrounded by family and friends in the hopes of raising more than £3,000 for Cancer Research.

Serial fundraiser Nicola Reynolds of White Lion Park will be leading from the front when Nick's Bosom Buddies take on the Relay for Life at Cirencester's South Cerney Airfield on July 29 with her history of the disease spurring them on.

The 47-year-old, who has been cancer free for six years, began campaigning for Cancer Research after her mother died from breast cancer aged only 49 and has used her story as motivation to help fund the charity's discoveries.

"I was 37 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer the first time," the Malmesbury School teaching assistant said. "I had a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy but sadly just short of five years later when I was 42, I got it again. Touching a lot of wood though, I have been all clear for six years. I am 47 now and I am here to tell the tale and that's the most important bit.

"I have seen the differences in treatment and I know that it makes a difference so that's why I am doing this. There is a risk my 17-year-old daughter Mollie could get it in the future so every penny helps."

Mrs Reynolds, who also has a 19-year-old son called Sam with her partner Andrew, has been busy walking the dog and running in preparation of the summer feat.

"Mollie and I try to go running ever week if we can," she said. "We walk the dogs a lot as well so we try to go up hills and all along fields but I don't think we are doing much specific training."

Mrs Reynolds and her teammates are looking forward to the relay, where survivors of cancer will be walking the first lap before sharing the experience with members of the team throughout the rest of the day. In the mean time, the 47-year-old hopes to raise lots of money for the cause.

"We have got a ladies pampering night at the football club on March 19 from 7-9.30pm and a bingo night on April 11 in the same place where we will also be holding raffles and things. The local businesses in Malmesbury have been absolutely amazing and we have loads of prizes."
