MEMBERS of the Malmesbury Young Farmers mucked into to raise money for the renovation of Sherston Village Hall during their annual dung drop event.

Around 20 young farmers delivered wheelbarrows full of manure to gardens around Sherston on Saturday to help raise money for the village hall, where they meet on a regular basis.

"We brought the muck to the people," chairman Sam Armstrong said. "We have been doing the dung drop for years and muck is a commodity that farmer always have and people always want but isn't necessarily accessible for a lot of people.

"It went really well but we didn't raise as much money as we have done in the past unfortunately and we are a little bit disappointed. We think we have raised something in the region of £500 and that will go towards the renovation of the village hall.

"I have lived in Sherston all my life and the club uses the hall on a regular basis. We wanted to be able to give something back to the people and ensure that they can continue to enjoy its use as much as we do."

The group, who are now preparing for their annual rally against other Young Farmer groups in the county, said they are always on the lookout for new members. Anyone interested in finding out more can visit www.facebook.com/groups/2340455151.
