AN adventure and nature blogger from Minety has been named one of 30 Ordnance Survey outdoor champions.

Sarah Whiting was selected from more than 460 applicants to take part in the new GetOutside project which aims to inspire more of the British public to get outside and exploring.

Along with her fellow champions, Sarah has received a bundle of OS clothing, the latest OS digital mapping products and explorer maps, and will now be taking to social media to document her most recent adventures as well as sharing her knowledge and passion of the outdoors.

Liz Beverley, OS GetOutside campaign manager said: "The benefits of exercising and getting regular fresh air are already well documented, but more needs to be done to get that message across.

"By sharing the passion they feel, and the fun they have being outside, Sarah and the other champions will help people reconnect with spending quality time outdoors."

It was Sarah's passion for getting both children and adults to spend more time outside exploring, learning and getting creative that lead her to create the Craft Invaders blog with her family. Here she shares family-orientated craft tutorials which have a strong focus on nature and recycling, recipes, and their family visits to UK wildlife and historic sites.

She said: "I believe spending time outside is fundamental to our health and well-being, whatever your age, interests and location.

"There is so much to see and experience. Our cities are filled with wonderful history, culture and fabulous people, while our rural areas contain much of our industrial and agricultural heritage as well as our precious wild spaces.

"Wherever you live, it really is simply a matter of stepping out of that building and starting your adventure."

Sarah plans to base her next project on how our ancestors lived and flourished in their outdoor environment by developing her bushcraft and foraging skills with her family among other challenges.
