HEARTBROKEN parents who set up a fundraising campaign for Wiltshire Air Ambulance in memory of their daughter are stunned that it passed the £30,000 mark within 72 hours.

Andy and Dawn Cubin were bereft when Hannah died only a few days after celebrating her 14th birthday.

She had been on a sleepover with a friend in her home village of Crudwell on Saturday night when she stopped breathing.

They tried to revive her with CPR but despite their efforts and those of paramedics, Hannah was pronounced dead. The air ambulance had been on standby to fly her to hospital and the couple decided to raise money for the vital service in her name.

Dawn and former Red Arrows pilot Andy, currently a British Airways captain, wrote on their fundraising page today that the figure was now more than £34,000.

“Three days since the launch of Hannah’s page and we are in awe of how her story has touched so many people across the globe,” they said.

“The total has zoomed up to £34,184, which means that Hannah has already potentially saved 12 lives. It is an impossible task to thank everyone personally, but I would like reassure you that we read every single message.

“Even if you are able to donate just £1, it will buy an ounce of fuel for the rescue helicopter to remain operational. We never know when any of us might need their service.”

In a tribute on its Facebook page the air ambulance said: “For any family to lose a child is utterly devastating.

"We are truly grateful that at such a difficult time Hannah’s parents have chosen to raise donations for Wiltshire Air Ambulance in Hannah’s memory.

“The strength and kindness shown by Hannah’s parents by choosing to support our charity, will help us be there for others when we are needed most and we hope that this will bring them some comfort at such a sad time.

“The generosity of the community has been a true testament to how well loved Hannah was and the widespread grief that is being felt by the public of Wiltshire.”
