PARALYMPIAN shooter Issy Bailey shared her remarkable story about her road to recovery with sports leaders and special educational needs and disabled students at Malmesbury School.

Issy Bailey, from Somerford Keynes, told students what it was like being part of Team GB in Rio this year and about the opportunities different paralympic sports such as wheel chair rugby and badminton can offer.

The 22-year-old, who was wheelchair-bound following a car crash in June 2013, joined nine other shooters in Rio following a rapid ascent through the ranks and where she narrowly missed out on the finals by five points.

Lily McAllister, a pupil at the school said: "I found it really inspiring to meet Issy and she showed me that sports has so much more to offer than just performance-based rewards. It also gave me an appreciation of how tough you have to be to play some of the Paralympic sports such as wheelchair rugby. Issy let us sit in her chair and you could see the damage that is caused by the collisions that take place when playing."

After the Paralympian finished her talk, students were encouraged to take part in activities using gadgets that would impair their vision to give them an understanding of what it was like to play sport with a disability.
