AN accountancy firm that has offices in Malmesbury has recognised a Malmesbury School student's achievements in her economics studies.

Paula Schramm from McGills Chartered Accountants visited the school last Wednesday, to present A-level student Sophie de Ternant with the McGills Year 12 Economics Student of the Year award.

Sophie was awarded the prize in recognition of her mature work ethic, persistence, contributions to class discussions and for her performance in an Apprentice-style 'Small Business Challenge'.

Mrs Schramm said: “I was delighted to present the prize to Sophie. She is a deserved winner and has really engaged with her economics studies.”

The star student was awarded a trophy and £75 worth of vouchers to spend.

Simon Nuttall, a partner at McGills, said: “It’s great to see students developing the sort of entrepreneurial flair that we see in so many small businesses – the backbone of our economy.

“Here at McGills we’re always keen to encourage the next generation of accountants and entrepreneurs and so it’s a pleasure to be able to recognise the efforts of such an enthusiastic economics student.”
