A Luckington primary school teacher who is cycling 2000km to Copenhagen on a tandem with her partner to raise awareness of her rare incurable cancer has reached Germany.

Thirty-year-old Emmy Collett and her partner Jake Coates decided to cycle to Copenhagen to raise awareness after she was the youngest person in the country to be diagnosed with medullary thyroid cancer.

The childhood sweethearts, who set off from London on June 26, have raised nearly £65,000 for the Royal Marsden’s Cancer Charity.

Dr Coates said: “We've just crossed the border into Germany. We are both doing really well and Emmy is feeling great. Her skin is still very sensitive but otherwise physically she is being an absolute trooper and is actually getting stronger not more fatigued as the days roll by.

“So far the reception from everyone we have met has been phenomenal. People are really interested in what we are doing. In the places we have spent most time in we have found the people to be incredibly warm and welcoming!

“We're over the moon that the fundraising is going so well! People’s generosity continues to astound us both and we are really hoping that we will reach £70,000 by the time we get to Copenhagen - I think we might!”
