A Sherston pub which has been fighting a council planning order for the last two months is near completion and will open to the public this week.

For the last six months Pete Brock has been renovating The Carpenter Arms on the edge of Sherston but his plans were fraught with difficulties when a new rendering system was ordered to be removed by Wiltshire Council.

The pub landlord filed for retrospective planning permission and his application received more than 25 letters of support but a decision has yet to be made.

Pete Brock said: "We are trying to finish up now. All I can say is the council has come out and we are looking to resolve the problem. The Parish council put something up in the village and they were so supportive.

"I really want to thank everyone for their support, I haven't had anybody say anything negative to me since the planning and everyone seems to be really behind it so it's fantastic."

The Carpenter Arms will be open for drinkers this week, although food will not be served until the kitchen has been completed at some point in July.

"I will be nice to see it back open for the village and their families," Mr Brock said. "Everyone keeps saying they are coming as soon as it's open and they seem really excited."

The Carpenter Arms will be opening on Friday at 6pm.
