A cycling club in Sherston has celebrated a landmark anniversary of the Battle of Sherston with a bike ride around the county.

More than 20 members of Sherston Velo took part in the ride on June 18, cycling either 60, 100, 120 or 140 mile routes, starting at 10.16am and finishing at 10.16pm in the evening.

Malcolm Hillier, a founder member of Sherston Velo cycling club, kicked the ride off and the riders regrouped at the Vine Tree in Norton for a mass finish that evening at the Rattle Bone in Sherston.

Chairman Peter Butterfield said: "We were delighted to be able to mark a very special year for the Sherston with this fantastic ride around the border of Wiltshire.

"The club is going from strength to strength from a small handful of riders to over 50 members in under 18 months - 2016 is a very special year for our village and we decided use our annual solstice ride to mark the battle of Sherston in 1016.

"We were delighted to get such a strong turnout on Saturday and hope that it provided a great start the the celebrations which took place over the weekend."
