LITTLE Foxes Nursery School children in Brinkworth turned into budding cooks on Tuesday as they were visited by a local chef to teach them about the world of food.

Guy Tasker, who is a chef at the Weighbridge Restaurant, attempted to teach the enthusiastic children how to make biscuits as well as showing them what he does day-to-day.

Manager of the nursery, Hilary Barnes, said all the children were very excited and added: “It was a very successful morning and here at Little Foxes we promote the local community and a strong partnership with the parents.

“As well as being given hands-on experience with food, the children were able to learn about healthy eating and how to prepare food.

“The children will be going to the Weighbridge Restaurant on Thursday to see the food from the other side and so they will be able to get the whole experience of how food is made.”

Around 18 children made heart-shaped biscuits to tie in with a Valentine’s Day theme and decorated them.

Mrs Barnes said: “The children were able to decorate their chef hats with their names and one thing we do is teach them good table manners so each had their turn mixing the ingredients with a spoon and then they were able to get their hands messy.”

Little Foxes is also looking for other parents to come into the school and talk to the children so their awareness of different occupations is broadened.

Mrs Barnes added: “If they have any particular skills or an interesting job then we encourage them to come in and extend the children’s learning through what they do.

“By getting the parents in, it encourages the children to look at different job roles.

“We have had several parents with children at the school come in to talk about their jobs including a musician, a vet and a doctor.

“We are also encouraging other parents to come in and talk about different cultures and read some stories from that country so we can tie it into different events going on.”

Little Foxes will soon be holding a Mother’s Day tea party on March 4.
