POLICE have confirmed that a 32-year-old man from Malmesbury was arrested yesterday evening in connection with the incident at New College.
Armed police were at the Swindon college yesterday apparently after threats were made to a member of staff on Facebook.
A spokesman said: "He is currently in custody.
"He was arrested away from the college site."
New College said issued the following statement today: "Yesterday afternoon police were called to New College Swindon as a precaution after threats were made on Facebook towards a member of staff. No one was physically threatened or hurt at the college.
"After initial checks, police confirmed that it was safe for all classes to continue as normal and that there was no danger to any staff or students.
"A man was arrested yesterday evening at another location and is still in custody. New College will be working closely with Wiltshire Police whilst the enquiry is ongoing."
