SEAGRY School saw a clash of the conkers on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

The annual conker championships, hosted by Seagry School, gathered a good crowd who had came along to test their mettle and see who would be crowned conker champion of 2015.

The event has been running for nearly 20 years, not just pupils of the school take part but also with pupils, parents, past pupils and siblings taking part.

Emma Damoglou, 45, class teacher of Seagry, of Marsfield Road Chippenham, said: “The day went really well and was excellent fun. We had a really good turnout with over 30 people showing up, the school itself is tiny so to get that amount of people was really good."

“The championships were open to parents, children, past pupils and current pupils, it is our traditional conker competition that acts as an exciting feature in the school calendar. When the children arrive the conkers are already strung so they can just dive straight in. It is a safe and fun day for everyone to enjoy. As well as the competitions we also have conker models being made which is always interesting.

“We have it on the grounds of the Chestnut in Seagry, we are very lucky for the owner, Mr Kay, to let us hold it on his property.

“For the winners of the competition we give out medals and certificates, the groups are usually split up into year groups. She added: "This year, The winner in the year five boy’s category was Harry Davis, winning overall in his year group."

“It is always a good, fun, family event that acts as our first event of the school year so everyone looks forward to it.”
