ANTIQUES Roadshow expert Marc Allum and historian and author Martyn Whittock will both be appearing at BBC Wiltshire's Local History Day, in Malmesbury this Saturday (Oct 17).

The free event opens at 10am at Malmesbury's town hall and runs through until 4pm with Mr Whittock speaking about England at the time of the Magna Carta.

Visitors to the event will have the chance to handle some of the hidden treasures from a variety of Wiltshire’s museums, receive help researching their family history and hear about the county’s latest archaeological discoveries.

In addition, they will be able to learn about the creation of the Magna Carta and have a go at writing some of it with a quill.

For the younger ones, children will have the chance to dress up as historical figures.

BBC Wiltshire’s, Sue Davies’ Saturday Show, will also be broadcasting live from the event.

The BBC Wiltshire Local History Day compliments the BBC History Magazine’s History Weekend, which is back for its third year and taking place from October 15 to 18 in Malmesbury.

The event includes talks from some of the world’s leading historians and authors including Dan Snow, Melvyn Bragg, Loyd Grossman, Suzannah Lipscomb amongst others as well as a History Quiz, In Conversation and a Big Debate Session.

Some tickets are still available from historyweekend.com/malmesbury and a limited number of tickets will be available for certain talks on the day.
