FLORAL splendour isn’t something you would normally associate with a second-hand car dealership.

But Hyams has come up smelling of roses again after winning two categories in the 2015 Malmesbury In Bloom competition.

The High Street-based family firm, which has been operating for 40 years, won the judges over as a result of its eye-catching window boxes, hanging baskets and containers.

Service manager Chris Fox said: “It’s something the garage has always done and we’ve won Malmesbury In Bloom many times over the years.”

This year’s display was particularly strong on begonias and fuchsias.

Mr Fox said: “A lot of effort goes into it, along with the time it takes to water them every day.

“People quite often come in and compliment us about it. The High Street always makes an effort with flower displays so there’s a lot of competition.”

Hyams won two categories: best window boxes, hanging baskets and containers and best commercial premises (including restaurants and pubs).

June Berryman also took two prizes for best courtyard garden and patio, and best garden in a street or road.

Francesca Alden-Fenn won best small garden, while Stephen Dangerfield was adjudged to have the best large garden.

Glovers Court won best wild flower garden while Michael, Claira and Sophia Allison attained best vegetable garden.
