STOUT hearted schoolboy Joe Wych (correct) is bracing himself for an Easter he will never forget when he hurls himself a staggering 300ft from Britain’s highest bungee jump.

The 15 year-old Malmesbury School student will take the plunge to raise money for Cancer Research after his mum Susann (correct) was diagnosed with the disease.

Plucky Joe, of Upper Minety, was keen to do something positive after having to watch his mum endure painful chemotherapy treatment in her battle to beat breast cancer.

He initially hoped to raise £300 from his leap of faith but after he and his sister Ella, 17, both posted the event on their Facebook sites cash pledges began to mount up.

Over the past five months he has acquired pledges totalling £1,800 from 84 people and is hoping to make it a round £2,000 over the next few days before the big drop on Easter Monday.

He will return from a skiing trip on Saturday before heading for Bray Lake, near Windsor, where he will dive from the top of a crane almost twice as tall as Nelson’s Column.

Mrs Wych, 50, said: “He’s bricking it but he’s absolutely determined to go through with it. We went past the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol the other day and we wondered whether his jump would be from that high up.

“Joe Googled it and discovered that his jump is going to be around 100ft higher. I still don’t think it’s hit him yet how high he will actually jump.”

Joe said: “Yeah, it’s a bit scary. My friends think I’m mad. But there’s no going back – I’m definitely up for it.”

Mother-of-two Mrs Wych was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer which meant that she had to endure the rigorous treatment of chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy.

Joe wanted to turn the family’s heartache into something positive but wasn’t quite sure what to do.

Then he and his dad Chris, a 46 year-old business unit controller, came across the UK Bungee Club website that offers the chance to have a crack at the country’s highest bungee jump.

Joe admitted: “I’ve never been up that high before so I don’t know what it will be like”
