WILY pupils at Sherston Primary School proved that they knew a thing or two about making cash when they took part in an Young Apprentice-style Money Week.

Each class was given a £10 loan to set themselves up in a number of money generating businesses.

They got cracking with various schemes ranging from running a disco to setting up a car wash – and each class cleaned-up by turning in a profit.

The car washers of Year Three – Beech Class – made the most. Charging £3 per wash they ended up with £108.34.

Some motorists were so impressed they paid more than the £3 asking price.

Year 6 (Sycamore) set-up a photo-booth and a popcorn stand at break-time, seeing a return of £90

Year 5 (Willow) ended-up with £85 after organising a talent show and charging a £1 entry fee.

Year 2 (Birch) arranged a snakes and ladders tournament, making £20 after charging 20p entry while Year 1 (Ash) sold soup and staged a school disco, making £40.

Reception children concocted their own smoothies which they sold for 50p – making a healthy £70.

Parent governor and chair of the Friends of Sherston School Fi Picton said: “The idea behind the whole week is to help children understand how to be more responsible with money and how money can be generated through hard work and a good idea.

”They all did really well.”

Now it’s up the children to decide how to splash their hard earned cash

Mrs Picton added: “They can spend their profit on anything they like such as new classroom equipment, a school trip, or perhaps, donate it to charity.”
