The first winner of the Wiltshire’s Best competition launched by the Gazette last month is the Sherston Post Office stores.

Paul and Gail Mather have been running the post office and village shop on the High Street in Sherston for just over ten years.

The shop was voted as the best newsagents in the county by Gazette readers after being one of six shortlisted.

Mr Mather said: “We are very, very pleased, it’s a great village and it’s typical of the community spirit in Sherston. It’s great for the village and great for us too, we loved every minute of it.

“It’s important staff and customers are happy and we like having fun, so that when people come out of the shop it’s been a good experience.”

Mr Mather said the shop is a hub of the community and its success is built around a strong relationship with its customers.

“We have a great rapport with customers. It’s a bit like golf – you can always improve – and we will try to improve and continue to listen to the customers’ needs.”
