A string of minor thefts were reported in Malmesbury during the build-up to Christmas.

Alcohol valued at £70 was stolen at around 7.30pm from a town centre supermarket on Wednesday, December 17.

A ball of glitter wool was taken from a town centre shop the following afternoon. Fuel was syphoned from an excavator in Foxley Road sometime between Friday and Monday, December 12-15.

A quantity of electric fencing was stolen from a site off Trow Lane, Grittenham, on Saturday, December 20. Police believe the incident may be connected with a previous theft of electric fencing materials value at £1,600 from Trow Lane between Tuesday and Wednesday, December 9/10.

Four tractor batteries were also stolen from the site a few days earlier.

A full and varied programme of films will be screened over the coming weeks at the Town Hall by the Movies@Malmesbury group. The next presentation is the acclaimed Mr Turner (12a) starring Timothy Spall as revered artist Joseph Turner which is showing on Monday, January 5, and Friday, January 9, at 8pm. The film will also be screened on Friday, January 23, at 2pm.

Also lined-up is The Imitation Game (12a) on Friday, January 9, at 2pm and Monday, January 19, at 8pm along with Penguins of Madagascar (u) on Friday, January 9, at 5.30pm and Friday, February 20, at 5.30pm.

Unpaid carers will be able to discover more about the free training, information, support, advice and respite breaks that are available to them at a special session at Malmesbury Town Hall on Wednesday, January 21, from 11am-4pm. There will be various talks and a free buffet lunch.

The work of internationally renowned garden designer, lecturer and writer Rosemary Verey, OBE (1918-2001) will be discussed by her daughter Daphne Wynne Jones at the next meeting of the Malmesbury and District Gardening Club at Charlton Village Hall on Monday, January 10. Mrs Verey is best known for designing the famous garden at Barnsley House near Cirencester.
