A NANNY trainer from Grittleton who set up a project helping families in crisis has won an award for her training.
Claire Burgess, early years consultancy manager for Norland College in Bath, was crowned Trainer of the Year at the 2014 Nursery World Awards.
She started nannying after graduating in 2001 and now delivers lectures at Norland College which the judge described as: “Strong training that enriches early years practitioners”.
She also trains external clients such as parents of multiples at The Twins and Multiple Births Association’s AGM, and set up the TAMBA Helping Hands project, in which Norland Nannies volunteer their time to support families of multiples who are in crisis.
They have helped families coping with severe medical complications, postnatal depression, serious behavioural problems and where a parent has died.
Miss Burgess has also just returned from Abu Dhabi, where she trained the 1,000th Flying Nanny, a group supporting families on long-haul flights.
She said: “I am thrilled and overwhelmed at being awarded Nursery World Trainer of the Year 2014. It is a real honour.”
